Sunlight Air Baggage Policy

Sunlight Air Baggage Policy: Fees, Sizes & Allowances

Sunlight Air’s baggage allowance depends on fare type: Lite includes no checked baggage, Value includes 10kg, and Plus includes 20kg. All fares include 7kg of carry-on across two pieces. Prepaid extra baggage costs PHP 600 per 10kg, while airport purchases cost PHP 2,000 for 20kg, and excess weight is billed at PHP 350 per kg.

Packing for an island-hopping trip on Sunlight Air’s ATR turboprops is different from prepping for a full-size jet. Because these aircraft have tighter weight and balance limits, Sunlight Air’s baggage rules are stricter and more fare-dependent than what you’d find with larger domestic carriers.

What Is Sunlight Air’s Baggage Allowance?

Sunlight Air’s baggage allowance is tied to your fare category. Lite fares come with 7kg of carry-on only and no free checked baggage. Value fares add 10kg of checked baggage. Plus fares include 20kg checked. Carry-on allowance (7kg, two pieces) is the same across all fare types.

Fare Type

Lite

Value

Plus

20kg

Choosing the right fare: If you’re traveling light for a weekend trip, Lite works fine since it’s built around carry-on only. If you’re checking a suitcase, Value’s 10kg is the better baseline, and Plus makes sense for longer trips, diving gear, or family travel where 20kg gives you breathing room without needing to prepay for extra weight.

What Is Sunlight Air’s Baggage Size Limit?

Carry-on baggage must not exceed 53 x 20 x 40 cm (43 linear inches combined), including handles and wheels. Checked baggage must fall within 56 x 23 x 36 cm and cannot weigh more than 32kg per piece, regardless of fare type.

  • Carry-on: 53 x 20 x 40 cm, 7kg combined across up to 2 bags
  • Checked (per piece): 56 x 23 x 36 cm, maximum 32kg
  • Combined checked weight (if using extra allowance or multiple bags): should not exceed 50kg per passenger, per flight

Any bag exceeding these size or weight thresholds may be denied, reclassified, or subject to excess fees at the discretion of ground staff, particularly on weight-restricted routes.

How Much Carry-On Baggage Can You Bring on Sunlight Air?

Every passenger, regardless of fare, can bring up to two carry-on pieces with a combined weight of 7kg. This includes personal items like handbags or laptop bags, which count toward the total weight and piece limit, not as separate freebies.

A few details competitors often skip:

  • Carry-on bags are weighed and measured at check-in, not just eyeballed
  • Sunlight Air reserves the right to move any carry-on into the cargo hold if cabin space or weight balance requires it
  • Infants get one additional hand-carry bag free of charge, provided its contents are for the infant’s use only
  • Strollers can be checked in free of charge, separate from your standard allowance

What Is Sunlight Air’s Check-In Baggage Price?

Sunlight Air charges PHP 600 per 10kg for prepaid baggage purchased online (effective October 1, 2025), or PHP 2,000 at the airport for up to 20kg across two pieces. Buying baggage in advance is almost always cheaper than paying at the check-in counter.

Purchase Type

Allowance

Price

Where to Buy

Prepaid Baggage

10kg per unit (up to 4 units)

PHP 600 per 10kg, per sector

Manage Booking, online check-in, or email

Airport Baggage Fee

20kg (max 2 pieces)

PHP 2,000 per way

Airport counter only

Excess Baggage Fee

Per kg over your allowance

PHP 350 per kg

Airport counter only

Another scenario: If you’re on a Value fare (10kg included) and show up with 15kg, you’ll be charged the excess baggage fee of PHP 350 per kg for the extra 5kg, totaling PHP 1,750 at the airport. Prepaying for a 10kg add-on in advance (PHP 600) would have covered that same overage for less than half the cost.

Note that passengers who’ve already purchased prepaid baggage aren’t eligible to also buy the Airport Baggage Fee, and only one Airport Baggage Fee can be purchased per passenger per journey.

How Much Does Sunlight Air Charge for Excess Baggage?

Excess baggage beyond your purchased allowance costs PHP 350 per kilogram, charged exclusively at the airport check-in counter. This rate applies whether you’re over your fare’s free allowance or over a prepaid add-on you already purchased.

For example, a Plus fare passenger (20kg included) traveling with 27kg would pay PHP 350 x 7kg = PHP 2,450 in excess fees at check-in. Because this rate is higher than the online prepaid rate, it’s almost always cheaper to estimate your baggage weight before departure and purchase any extra allowance online, at least 4 hours before your flight through My Booking, or 8 hours before via email for bookings that can’t check in online.

Route-specific exception: On weight-restricted routes  Clark-Coron, Coron-Cebu, Clark-Siargao, Siargao-Clark, Cebu-Siargao, Siargao-Cebu, and Clark-Boracay  prepaid baggage may sell out due to aircraft weight limits. If that happens, the PHP 2,000 airport option becomes your fallback, subject to available space.

What Items Are Prohibited or Restricted on Sunlight Air Flights?

Explosives, flammable liquids and solids, corrosive materials, radioactive substances, and gases are banned from both checked and carry-on baggage. Liquids in carry-on are capped at 100ml per container, up to 1L total. Firearms require advance coordination and a processing fee.

Fully prohibited (checked and carry-on):

  • Explosives, fireworks, and gunpowder
  • Flammable liquids and solids (gasoline, matches, paints)
  • Corrosive items (battery fluids, sulfuric acid)
  • Radioactive materials
  • Toxic substances (pesticides, medical waste)
  • Gases (propane, butane, aerosols)

Restricted in checked baggage only (must be carry-on):

  • Lithium-ion batteries (max 100Wh, max 8g lithium metal, max 2 power banks)
  • Fragile items and valuables (jewelry, currency, documents)
  • Electronic devices

Restricted in carry-on only (must be checked):

  • Firearms  require PNP-AVSEGROUP declaration, proper permits, and a PHP 1,120 handling fee per weapon, per sector, per passenger (non-refundable)
  • Sharp objects, blunt instruments, and stunning devices

Liquids rule in detail: Carry-on liquids, gels, and aerosols are capped at 100ml per container, with a maximum of ten containers (1L total) per passenger. This limit is enforced based on container size, not how full it is, so a half-empty 200ml bottle still counts as over the limit.

Does Sunlight Air Allow Baby Strollers and Infant Baggage?

Yes. Infants traveling with a paying adult get one free hand-carry bag for infant essentials, and strollers can be checked at no additional cost, separate from the standard baggage allowance. Children who occupy their own seat receive the full adult baggage allowance for their booked fare.

This is a detail many competitor guides gloss over. Since infant baggage doesn’t count against the accompanying adult’s checked or carry-on allowance, families traveling with young children effectively get more total baggage capacity per booking than the fare chart alone suggests.

What Happens If Your Sunlight Air Baggage Is Lost or Delayed?

Passengers with delayed baggage are eligible for a First Need Allowance of PHP 1,000 to cover immediate essentials. Lost baggage is compensated with travel certificates equivalent to a one-way or roundtrip ticket. Damaged baggage claims require a Property Irregularity Report filed before leaving the airport.

  • Delayed: File a report at the airport immediately; email airportbaggageunit@sunlightair.ph for status updates; receive PHP 1,000 First Need Allowance
  • Lost: Compensated via travel certificate (one-way or roundtrip)
  • Damaged: Report must be filed at the counter upon receipt; written complaints must follow within 7 days for damage or 21 days for delay claims, per the Conditions of Carriage
