Air Do Baggage Policy

Air Do Baggage Policy: Fees, Weight, Size & Allowance

AIRDO allows 10 kg of carry-on baggage (one bag plus one personal item) and, for flights boarding on or after May 19, 2026, up to two checked items at 23 kg each, with a 100 kg total limit. Overweight items up to 45 kg and oversized items up to 292 cm can be checked for an additional fee.

Planning a trip on Japan’s Hokkaido-based carrier? Getting your baggage numbers right before you fly saves you from paying avoidable fees at the counter  and from repacking your suitcase in the middle of a busy terminal. AIRDO’s rules cover carry-on weight, checked baggage allowances, oversized items, and special cargo like pets and musical instruments, and the airline recently updated several of these limits.

What Is AIRDO’s Baggage Allowance?

AIRDO’s baggage allowance covers two categories: 10 kg of carry-on baggage per passenger and, for flights on or after May 19, 2026, up to two checked items weighing 23 kg each (100 kg total). Additional weight, size, and item-count all carry separate fees, detailed below.

AIRDO structures its allowance around passenger safety and cargo hold capacity rather than a flat “one free bag” rule. That means your allowance depends on both the weight per item and the total combined weight across everything you check in.

AIRDO Baggage Policy: Carry-On Rules

AIRDO permits one carry-on bag plus one personal item, together weighing no more than 10 kg. The carry-on bag must not exceed 115 cm in total dimensions (55 cm × 40 cm × 25 cm), while the personal item  effective October 1, 2026  is capped at 40 cm × 30 cm × 20 cm.

Prohibited cabin items include scissors, knives, bladed objects, large tripods, and golf clubs  all of which must go into checked baggage. Insulin pens and other personal syringes are permitted, but you must declare them at the security checkpoint.

If your carry-on doesn’t fit these dimensions, you’ll need to check it at the counter before security  trying to squeeze past with an oversized bag isn’t an option AIRDO allows.

What if I need extra space for a fragile or oversized item?

Passengers needing an extra seat for fragile items exceeding the carry-on size limit  musical instruments or artwork, for example  can book AIRDO’s special passenger fare at JPY 11,550 (tax included) per seat, on all routes. This isn’t available for online booking and must be arranged through the Reservation and Information Center.

AIRDO Baggage Allowance for Domestic Flights

AIRDO’s domestic baggage allowance changed significantly starting with flights boarding May 19, 2026. Understanding which rule set applies to your flight date is essential, since the two policies differ in weight per item, size limits, and total piece count.

Policy period

Weight per item

Size limit (3 dimensions)

Piece count

Until May 18, 2026

20 kg free; up to 32 kg with fee

203 cm

Unlimited

From May 19, 2026

23 kg per item

158 cm (standard)

Up to 2 items

Under the newer policy, items exceeding 23 kg (up to 45 kg) require an overweight fee, and items with combined dimensions up to 292 cm require an oversized baggage fee. A third or fourth bag can still be checked, but each additional piece incurs its own fee. Passengers connecting through domestic ANA, Solaseed Air (SNJ), or Star Flyer (SFJ) flights can check baggage through for up to three routes, provided minimum connection times are met.

AIRDO Baggage Policy for Economy Class: What Are the Actual Fees?

AIRDO’s economy class checked baggage allowance includes up to 20 kg per person free of charge under the pre-May 2026 policy, with overweight fees applying incrementally above that threshold. AIRDO has not yet published the exact fee schedule for flights boarding on or after May 19, 2026.

Here’s the published overweight fee table (applicable to flights before May 19, 2026):

Exceeding weight

Fee

1–10 kg over

JPY 2,500

11–20 kg over

JPY 3,500

21–30 kg over

JPY 4,500

Every additional 10 kg

+JPY 1,000

Example: If your bag weighs 35 kg  15 kg over the 20 kg free allowance  you’d fall into the 11–20 kg bracket and pay JPY 3,500. A 45 kg bag (25 kg over) would land in the 21–30 kg bracket at JPY 4,500.

Because AIRDO has stated that new fees for the May 19, 2026 policy “will be announced separately,” economy passengers booking flights after that date should confirm current pricing directly with AIRDO’s Reservation and Information Center before packing, since the underlying per-item weight limit has already shifted from 20 kg to 23 kg.

What Special Items Can You Bring on AIRDO?

AIRDO accepts pets (dogs, cats, small birds, and small animals like squirrels and hamsters) as cargo, foldable strollers and wheelchairs free of charge, and musical instrument cases under 115 cm as carry-on. Bicycles, skis, and golf bags are accepted as standard checked baggage, subject to the usual weight and size fees.

  • Pets: Checked as cargo; advance arrangements required.
  • Wheelchairs and strollers: Free of charge if for the passenger’s own use; electric wheelchair users should arrive 60 minutes early and disclose battery type in advance.
  • Bicycles: Must be packed in a soft case or cardboard box; non-folding bikes are accepted if the three dimensions total 203 cm or less.
  • Musical instruments: Cases under 115 cm (width, length, depth) can be carried on.
  • Kaisoku Takku-bin: AIRDO partners with ANA’s home delivery service to forward baggage from the airport directly to your destination address.

Valuables like cash, jewelry, cameras, and laptops should never go in checked baggage  AIRDO’s liability is capped at JPY 150,000 per person for undeclared-value items, with additional coverage available for a fee of JPY 10 per JPY 10,000 above that threshold if you declare a higher value in advance.

Practical Tips for a Smooth AIRDO Check-In

  • Confirm your policy period. If you’re flying on or after May 19, 2026, plan around the new 23 kg/158 cm/two-item structure, not the older 20 kg rule.
  • Use automated check-in machines at Haneda, New Chitose, or Fukuoka to save time.
  • Arrive early at Haneda  from September 1, 2026, the baggage check-in cutoff there moves to 30 minutes before departure.
  • Weigh bags at home to avoid surprise overweight fees at the counter.
  • Consider Kaisoku Takku-bin if you’re heading somewhere far from the arrival airport and don’t want to carry heavy bags on local transport.
